What is Diversion?
The Diversion Program is a voluntary and confidential alternative to the formal court process, which allows the community to respond to local crime. Through the Diversion process, the offender is held accountable for his or her offense and is able to make fair amends to the victim and the community.

If accepted into the Diversion Program (acceptance requires approval by our Review Board), the participant avoids going through court and receiving a conviction record along with fines and/or probation. Successful completion of the Diversion Program results in the dismissal of the charge.

Diversion in Bennington County has proved successful. We have only a 9% recidivism rate.
