Philosophy
•
The Street Checker program provides a community based alternative to staff
secure or locked detention by establishing increased community based supervision
and support for youth on probation or at risk of illegal behavior.
Goals
•
Reduce repeat and first time offenses.
•
Reduce unnecessary
admission to detention by providing additional supervision to delinquents
at high risk to re-offend.
•
Reduce unnecessary admissions to detention by first time offenders by
increasing supervision and support for youth at risk.
•
Increase the numbers of youth who can be placed at home through increased
supervision and family support.
Objectives
•
Street Checkers direct delinquent and at risk youth in a more productive
direction by teaching life skills to individuals and groups.
•
Street Checkers also form partnerships with parents, youth, school personnel
and community members to effect outcomes that will enhance the lives of
the youth, the family and ultimately the community.
Life Skills
/ Activities Group
•
Life Skills group for boys takes place every Wednesday afternoon from
3-4:30pm, girls group is Tuesdays from 3-4:30pm. These groups run almost
every week throughout the year. Currently we have a group of about 9 boys
who show up every week. Most of these kids have fulfilled the requirements
of having to be at a group, however they keep coming to group because
they have fun and it is something to do.
•
Life skills group consists of everything from lectures, to bringing the
kids to Six Flags Theme Park, to playing video games and watching movies.
Currently we are stripping the walls and repainting our activity room
with the kids.
